New Word in HP Book

I do like the word "splinch" (presumably a portmanteau of split+pinch) for the effect of apparating incompletely. Most distressful: similar to but probably worse than being caught in elevator doors.

I have to look it up, but IIRC it's NOT new to book 6. I forget whether it's coined in book 4 or 5, but we've seen it before.

No, it's not new. May even be as early as book 3, but I'd have to look it up too!

Hmm ... Obviously I missed the first reference(s). Would this be the first time that a "splinching" has occurred "on stage"?

Its been mentioned anecdotally as a reason for not taking apparating lightly, couple of nasty stories about just *how* people splinched themselves... mentioned in azkaban I think, maybe before too, not sure.

I think I recall seeing "splinch" before. However, I do *not* recall any prior mention of the word "horcrux".
